After the acquisition of Grocers Supply’s warehouse and distribution operations in the Houston area, C&S Wholesale Grocers was looking to do site improvements and additions for servicing their fleet of delivery trucks in-house. We were given plans on adding fuel tanks to the site, as well as running high pressure grease lines, compressed air, off-road and on-road diesel, DEF, electrical, windshield fluid, antifreeze and all necessary accessories and equipment to run it: pumps, gauges, valves, sensors, reel racks, Unistrut racks and pipe racks, electrical panels and product dispensers. Of course, earthwork, concrete pavement, bollards, jersey barriers, custom-poured cast-in-place concrete and storm sewer were all necessities to accomplish our goal. Below, you can see our project start to finish. The project consisted of three working areas: the truck maintenance warehouse, the fueling area, and the petroleum tank containment area.
From start to finish, the project took one day shy of 4 months to complete.
This slideshow shows the earthwork, stabilization, and pavement areas we needed to complete in order to install the fuel tanks and run the lines. The slab was sloped to provide proper drainage into an inlet located in one corner of the slab. The inlet water then ran through a pump to an Oil/Water Separator.
In the truck maintenance garage, we installed 9 reel racks with corresponding product hose reels and new piping to each one. The custom racks were assembled out of genuine Unistrut and attached to the steel purlins. All piping was affixed to anchoring Unistrut with cushioned pipe clamps. The high pressure grease line was ran with high pressure tubing. The rest of the piping inside the maintenance area was black iron pipe, threaded and installed on-site by our Bear team.
Here we had to cut and remove concrete to run new conduit, install bollards, and create a good platform for the custom cast-in-place concrete and fuel dispensers that were later installed. The large metal steel racks were pipe racks for on-road and off-road diesel (3″ pipe), DEF (stainless steel pipe) and compressed air lines. After the dispensers were installed, we poured large custom jersey barriers and concrete dividers/protectors between the bays. We finished off with final cleaning and painting.
Success!
